The mission of Lagom is to operate in a way that the human tendency to self-actualize is trusted and students balance autonomy with responsibility for themselves and the society. Lagom aims at nurturing socially mindful and personally satisfying young minds.
At Lagom, We believe learning is a byproduct of what an individual do ,see and observe . Each child has their own individual right to shape their lives.The students are entirely self-directed and they choose on how to spend their time at the school. Lagom trusts that children learn best when driven by internal motivation, following their own rhythm and path. Lagom believes in facilitating learning through the combination of care,freedom and responsibility.
Every child born in this world is naturally curious.Our core principle is based on the fact that young people thrive best when trusted to follow their natural curiosity.Instead of imposing a time schedule for the mastery of skills,we give time back to young people and support their innate desire to learn what they want at their own pace,all within a supportive environment. Each learner is treated uniquely, with individual learning styles.
In Lagom, facilitators are careful not to push their personal views on students and to be respectful of their autonomy. Facilitators contribute to the richness of the community through their experiences & scaffolding the children when asked /required. They aid learning by supporting inquiry, critical thinking and creativity.Facilitators are not expected to know all things that students want to learn about. Every individual learns throughout their life , facilitators are not exceptions.
Our community is formed by students, facilitators, parents, volunteers & community partners.Children grow through observation and experimentation with all ages . Free association among all ages lets relationships develop based on passions, personalities, and circumstances.The environment at Lagom provides opportunities for children to learn about taking responsibilities for their own actions, the consequences of their decision making and how to put things right when they have made a wrong decision. Students can pursue any safe activity that does not infringe on the safety or freedom of other people including activities beyond the walls of our building.
Learning is not only about gaining knowledge. Knowledge is necessary but has its own limited place in life. Education has to offer the fullness of integrated life and action. Just a part of it with knowledge, capacity and efficiency will lead to pshycological pressure of increasing conflicts and suffering. Learning is a conscious and continuous process. It is about bringing awareness of one’s own conditioning or beliefs, conflicts, desires, emotions, thoughts and behaviours.
With the need for certification towards further studies, students are presented for NIOS certificates for Grades 10 and 12.
